Construction company BERERIX has completed the substantial construction works on the façade and glazed roof of the southern section of the new Riga Central Station building, as well as the installation of decorative and functional elements. As a result, the new station building has now taken on its intended architectural appearance, previously seen only in project visualizations.
The new station building features a total of 1,500 square meters of glazing. The façade incorporates high-quality glass structures, architectural design elements, and integrated functional solutions, including mounting systems for fire safety equipment and building maintenance (industrial rope access) systems. The façade and roof glazing structures were manufactured in Italy, where they also underwent load and quality testing. These tests confirmed the structures' resistance to air and water exposure as well as mechanical impacts, ensuring their durability and suitability for Latvia's climatic conditions, including harsh winters.
"Construction of the planned southern section of the station building is rapidly approaching completion, with one major milestone after another being achieved. All major construction works on the station building will be completed by the end of August 2026, while all currently approved and funded construction works will be finalized by the end of 2026," said Mārtiņš Ķeņģis, Member of the Management Board of Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, the national implementer of Rail Baltica in Latvia.
In June, the substantial construction works on the three new passenger platforms were also completed. Access routes have been built and lifts installed at both ends of each platform, providing passengers with convenient access from ground level. Modern and functional platform canopies have also been constructed, architecturally integrated with the station building and extending seamlessly to the Timoteja Street entrance/exit. The platform canopies also feature extensive glazing as part of their architectural design.
The platform surfaces are finished with European-manufactured R11-rated porcelain tiles designed for outdoor use, providing a high level of slip resistance in both dry and wet conditions. These tiles are widely used at railway stations across Scandinavia and elsewhere in Europe due to their suitability for high passenger traffic, exceptional durability, ease of maintenance, and long service life.
"Construction works in the southern section of the new Riga Central Station are progressing rapidly and in line with the project schedule. The completion of the façade and platform works allows the building's architectural design and construction quality to be fully appreciated. At the same time, we continue work on the station interiors and surrounding public spaces to deliver modern, safe, and comfortable infrastructure for passengers," emphasized Guntis Āboltiņš-Āboliņš, Chief Executive Officer of the BERERIX consortium.
Interior finishing works, integration of engineering and safety systems, and the final stages of utility installation are continuing inside the station building. BERERIX has also commenced landscaping of the station's southern forecourt, including paving works, and plans to begin planting and greening works when seasonal conditions are suitable.

Construction works in the southern section of the new Riga Central Station are being carried out under the agreement concluded between Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas (EDzL), the national Rail Baltica implementing body in Latvia, and the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFCA) for the implementation of Project No. 1.1.1.1.i.2/2/25/I/CFLA/001, "Improvement of Passenger Infrastructure through the Construction of the Southern Section of Riga Central Railway Station."
The total value of the financing agreement amounts to EUR 138,699,855.80, including EUR 114,627,980.00 from the Recovery and Resilience Facility and EUR 24,071,875.80 from the Latvian state budget. The agreement was signed in November 2025 and provides for the completion of all major construction works—including roofing, façade construction, platform canopies, interior finishing, passenger access infrastructure, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works—by 31 August 2026, upon which a certificate of substantial completion will be issued.
The FIDIC Engineer, construction supervision, and independent construction expertise services for the project are provided by FORMA 2 Ltd.
The agreement also provides for the participation of the state-owned company Latvian Railways (Latvijas dzelzceļš – LDz) as a project partner. As the prospective infrastructure manager, LDz is actively involved in preparations for the station's handover and future operation to ensure the timely availability of the information and technical readiness required to fulfil its management responsibilities.
The southern section of Riga Central Station will be able to commence full passenger operations after the completion of the 1,520 mm gauge railway infrastructure. Final commissioning of the entire facility is linked to the completion of the 1,520 mm railway infrastructure in the southern section, currently planned for mid-2028.
