The European Commission's Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM) has officially confirmed a project on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production possibilities in the Baltic region by Latvia and Estonia.
As the global community intensifies its pursuit of environmental sustainability, the Baltic states of Latvia and Estonia have taken a significant stride forward. The start of the project is planned for the second half of 2024 and the research will last for several months.
The main objective of the study is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of SAF production possibilities in the Baltic region. The results of this study are expected to serve as a guide for investors and provide valuable support in shaping the future national policy frameworks of both countries, especially regarding the further development of the aviation sector, thereby promoting the reduction of carbon emissions and ensuring a greener future.
In alignment with the TSI's objectives for 2024, the project will deliver critical technical support to member states. The focus is on nurturing reforms that resonate with the EU's broader goals – the green and digital transitions, diversity, financial stability, migration, business dynamics, health, and educational advancement. Latvia and Estonia's joint SAF venture is a blueprint for multi-country cooperation, driving the collective push towards a greener, more resilient Europe.
