On 22 September 2023 Riga Freeport authority showcased new cooperation opportunities at the World Port Strategy Forum (WPSF) and Shenzhen International Automobile RO-RO Logistics Forum (RO-RO) on the side lines of the China International Logistics Fair (CILF).

Mr Martins Ziemanis, the Deputy CEO of the Freeport of Riga, delivered a presentation at the WPSF and introduced the latest developments and new cooperation opportunities in the port.

With challenging and changing geopolitical situation, Riga port enterprises are actively seeking to diversify traditional business operations by concentrating resources and focusing on industrialisation. Increasingly, innovation and digitalisation are driving new projects, whilst sustainable development targets, such as the carbon neutrality, provide a strong impetus for sustainable and renewable energy project investments and developments in the port areas.

At the same time, new technological products such as new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, solar and wind energy solutions have spawned new business patterns and trends in port developments around the world. These new developments are increasingly supporting and accelerating economic transformations.

At the Shenzhen International Automobile RO-RO forum, Mr Ziemanis shared experience in RO-RO operations and combined transport services, as well as introduced new cooperation opportunities for the development of the RO-PAX terminal in Riga port.

The delegation from Latvia was led by Mr Helmuts Kols, Counsellor of the Ministry of Transport of Latvia at the Embassy of Latvia in China, and Mr Martins Ziemanis, the Deputy CEO of the Freeport Authority of Riga.

CILF is the largest international logistics and supply chain fair in China held annually in Shenzhen. WPSF and RO-RO forums attracted representatives from the major European ports, such as Gdansk, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Antwerp-Bruges, Barcelona, Taranto, and Valencia.
