On 20 September 2022 the Transport Working Group (TWG) of the Latvia-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental commission on economic, scientific, and technical cooperation met in Almaty, Kazakhstan to discuss the bilateral development of aviation, railway, road, and logistics cooperation.  

The TWG meeting took place on the sidelines of the "TransKazakhstan and TransLogistica 2022" exhibition. “For several years, the transport and logistics industry has been working in conditions of new challenges. Amidst the crisis, Latvia is developing alternative transport and logistics solutions and services whilst preserving the fragile and at the same time effective global transportation links. TWG meeting is an effective discussion platform that provides opportunities to find solutions in the rapidly changing and challenging geopolitical conditions,” said Mr. Uldis Reimanis, the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Latvia, co-chairman of the Latvian-Kazakhstan Transport Working Group.

To expand bilateral cooperation in transport and logistics Latvia and Kazakhstan officials agreed to include road transport cooperation issues in the agenda of the next Latvian-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission meeting, which will be held at the end of this year. At the invitation of the Latvian side, the Kazakhstan side is planning to send a delegation, consisting of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Industry Development of Kazakhstan officials together with transport and logistics companies, to visit Latvia in October 2022 to inspect transport and logistics infrastructure and Latvian ports of Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja Special Economic Zone.

During the working visit to Kazakhstan, Mr. Uldis Reimanis and Mr. Andris Eglajs, Director of the International Department of the Latvia Post ("Latvijas Pasts") met with the management of the Kazakhstan Post company "Kazpochta" to discuss bilateral cooperation. At the meeting, the parties recognised that postal cooperation is an essential part of the transport and logistics cooperation, and it shall be included in the agenda of the next TWG meeting.

The delegation of the Ministry of Transport of Latvia together with Latvian transport industry companies visited Almaty, Kazakhstan from 20-22 September 2022. Transport and logistics sector of Latvia was represented with national pavilion "VIA LATVIA" at the international exhibition and conference "TransKazahstan and TransLogistica 2022". "TransKazahstan and TransLogistica 2022" exhibition is held annually in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It is an important event for the transport and logistics industry, attended by businessmen not only from the Central Asian region, but also from the entire Eurasian continent. This year, Latvia was represented at the exhibition with 12 transport and logistics enterprises.
