The Cohesion Fund

THE COHESION FUND

The Cohesion Fund was set up to finance infrastructure development measures (projects) in the field of environmental protection and transport. The Cohesion Fund makes a financial contribution into projects to achieve the EU's environmental and transport objectives.

Results of the Cohesion Fund projects

Roads. Increased bearing capacity of asphalt roads and bridges according to EU norms and improved traffic safety of approximately 165 km of Latvian road (11% of the total length of TEN roads in Latvia).

Railway. Improved traffic safety and throughput.

Ports. Modernization of the ports' access roads ensures the development of a ferry traffic and a capacity of the various sections of the transport corridors.

Airports. Enhancing traffic safety by upgrading the airport category to meet ICAO Meteorological Condition II requirements and extending the runway from 2.5 km to 3.1 km, which will allow the servicing of larger aircraft.
